7 fun reasons why you should take a weekend vacation

A weekend vacation is a perfect way to find adventure without having to find the time.

Within this guide, you will find 7 fun reasons why you should take a weekend vacation. From long work hours to busy personal lives, taking time off can seem impossible. However, with the 7 reasons below, we hope that you will prioritize vacations and learn that you can travel the world during a long weekend.

7 Fun Reasons Why You Should Take a Weekend Vacation

7 fun reasons why you should take a weekend vacation

1 – Allows Flexibility

Avoid peak travel season

After you have narrowed down the time that you will take off for vacation, consider if the date of travel falls within the “peak” season window for the chosen destination.

For example, if you are planning a ski vacation to Colorado, you may want to avoid visiting from December through February due to the peak tourist season that leads to bigger crowds and higher prices. Check out our article for planning a 3 day Colorado Vacation

2 – Saves Money

Weekend vacations can be more affordable

Saving money is one of the 7 fun reasons why you should take a weekend vacation.

Cutting back on the cost of vacationing is a major perk of why you should book your next weekend vacation outside of the destination’s peak season.

From our personal research and travel bookings, we have avoided spending hundreds and even thousands of extra dollars by booking vacations outside of the peak windows.

From Florida Keys vacations to adventures in Yellowstone, traveling for a weekend or short vacation can be very affordable.

3 – Promotes Self Happiness

Short vacations enable us to put ourselves first

A fun reason to take a weekend vacation is to promote your personal self-happiness.

Even if the vacation is only for a few days, escaping from our daily responsibilities and focusing on our inner self will hopefully provide true happiness.

4 – Helps to Slow Down Time

Years come and go too fast

We are tired of watching time pass by in front of our eyes. From working 9 to 5 jobs and sitting behind a cubicle, weekend vacations provide a great opportunity to travel and seek out adventure.

Time seems to slow down when you are busy exploring a new mountain, river, or city

5 – Builds Appreciation for Nature

Our Planet is a special and unique place

We LOVE nature. There is something about hiking or kayaking to a remote area that builds a connection between our everyday lives and the beautiful world that surrounds us.

Our world is fragile and human interaction in nature can greatly impact the future of our beautiful world. When planning your weekend vacations, think about the steps that can be taken to limit our human impact on nature.

Check out the National Park Service website for more details on conservation.

6 – Breaks Up the Daily Routine

Add adventure into your routine

If you find yourself stuck in your routine of:

  • waking up
  • commuting to an office
  • working 9 plus hours a day
  • Getting home to do it all over again the next day

Then a weekend vacation is the correct choice for you!

Weekend vacations do not take up much time; however, the benefit of taking a short vacation to break up the daily routine will hopefully provide adventure to your life.

7 – Exposure to Different Environments

Alpine Mountains to Ocean Basins

The options of where to travel during a weekend vacation are endless. Our beautiful planet offers countless opportunities to be exposed to various environments.  For any given weekend vacation, you have the option to travel to the southernmost point of the United States or to the mountain peaks of Whitefish, Montana.

Weekend vacations will provide you with the chance to adventure out of your routine, explore new areas, and appreciate Mother Nature.

We hope that these 7 fun reasons why you should take a weekend vacation, will inspire you to find adventure without having to find the time.

Best 2 day Ski Guide to Breckenridge Colorado

Best 2 day Ski Guide to Breckenridge Colorado

For 2 epic days of skiing and snowboarding follow the below guide to understand how to navigate the mountain and the route to take to make it back to where you started.

Start Point:

Peak 9, Quicksilver SuperChair

From the Quicksilver Superchair lift, you will immediately have access to a wide variety of green trails. This will be a good location for beginners to practice and a good warm-up for more experienced skiers.

Starting the journey across the mountain:

From the top of the Quicksilver Superchair lift, ski down Silverthorn to the Peak 8 SuperConnect chairlift. From the top of the Peak 8 SuperConnect chairlift, you will have already travel a third of the mountain. From here you can ski, black diamonds, or 4 O’clock, which is the longest trail at 3.5 miles.

If you take the 4 O’clock route, either ski back down to Peak 8 SuperConnect or travel further across the mountain.

To travel further across the mountain take either:

  • Columbine – a flat trail running across the mountain; or
  • Springmeier – a green that will drop you off at the bottom of Rocky Mountain SuperChair

Now make your way towards the Independence SuperChair lift. To arrive at this chairlift, you can take either:

  • Northstar – a steep blue trail that will connect to Claimjumper; or
  • Claimjumper – a wide open space trail (we love this route!)

Food

Located at the top and bottom of the Independence SuperChair lift are two amazing lunch options, Sevens & Pioneer Crossing.

Sevens is located at the bottom of Peak 7, directly in front of the Independence SuperChair lift. Here you can either enjoy a sit-down meal or grab a quick-service lunch from The CoopEither option will provide the mid-afternoon break that is needed from a morning of adventure. After lunch, hop on to the Independence Chair lift to continue the mountain adventure.

Pioneer Crossing is another great lunch option. Located at the top of the Independence SuperChair Lift, this restaurant will allow you to beat the crowds of the restaurants located at the base of the mountain. In addition, enjoy the beautiful view of Breckenridge’s mountain range!

After a lunch break

Choose from a variety of trails that are located at the top of the Independence SuperChair Lift. From the right of the Independence SuperChair lift, you can take a variety of blue trails, such as Monte Cristo, Angel’s Rest, Wirepatch, etc…

However, we recommend taking the scenic route through a little backcountry skiing on the black diamond called Wanderlust. Always know your limits when skiing and snowboarding, there are many risks when exploring trails that travel through trees. Always use your judgment.

From Wanderlust, a great route to take to ski down Peak 6 is to take the Kensho SuperChair. When we traveled during March, the conditions at the top of the mountain were stunning, but the wind was heavy and tossed the snow, which impaired visibility. Unless you are looking for double black diamonds, we recommend taking the 2 blue routes located on the left and right side of the chairlift.

From either blue route, take Lost Horizon and Monte Cristo back down to the bottom of the Independence SuperChair lift.

With over 180 trails on the mountain, continue to explore the beautiful Breckenridge Ski Resort for the rest of the day.

Returning to the Start Point:

When you are ready to return to Peak 9, Quicksilver SuperChair from the top of the Independence SuperChair lift, take the following trails:

  1. Lower Forget-Me-Not to Northstar
  2. Colorado SuperChair lift
  3. 4 O’clock to Crosscut to Lower Sawmill
  4. Bypass the Beaver Run Superchair
  5. Arrive back to the Quicksilver SuperChair

Memorable 3 day weekend vacation in the beautiful Florida Keys

Not having enough time should not be a reason why you cannot enjoy a long weekend in the Florida Keys.

A memorable 3 day vacation in the beautiful Florida Keys should be on everyone’s bucket list.

On this trip, we visited Key Largo, Florida. Spanning over 30 miles long and only half a mile wide, Key Largo is the largest Key and only a short hour drive from Miami International Airport.

The Florida Keys offers a wide range of activities and scenic views that could keep you occupied for many days. However, we believe that anyone can visit and become fully immersed in all that the Keys has to offer during a long weekend.

Day 1: Arrive in Miami, Florida

Logistics

For a memorable weekend vacation in the Florida Keys, fly into Miami International Airport.

Only a short 1-hour drive from Key Largo, MIA is the most convenient airport to fly into when visiting the upper Keys.

Plan to arrive in Miami by 6 pm. This will allow time to grab a delicious dinner and explore Miami’s nightlife. We recommend staying in the Brickell area to be immersed in Miami’s cuisine, culture and nightlife.

Food

For dinner, go check out Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza. This restaurant is known for its vibrant atmosphere and star pizzas.

A tip from a local Miami resident – if Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza is packed with a long wait time, go check out the restaurant next door called Dolores But You Can Call Me Lolita. Turns out the restaurants share a menu and you can get the star pizza from either location!

For dessert make your way into Wynwood, Miami’s art district. Located outside of a nightclub, you will find an ice cream stand called Taitaki NYC, a Japanese ice cream shop serving up customizable flavors in a fish-shaped waffle cone.

Miami Ice Cream

This was an awesome experience of being in the heart of Miami and enjoying a unique treat!

After enjoying the nightlife, make your way back to your hotel and relax for the adventure ahead!

This restaurant is located on the Islamorada Key, which is famous for being the sport fish capital of the world.
